One thing I enjoy when in England is trying to find the strangest TV show of the trip. Emily and Claire and I still love to talk about the show that was on while were in Cambridge, "Danger Spotting." It was a show designed to teach children how to spot ordinary household dangers. But it was so graphic in its portrayals of the evils that could befall youngsters that it was absolutely terrifying. The best one was on the danger of knives, and let's just say there was a lot of blood involved. Another of my favorite strange English TV shows was a show about gravy tasting.
The latest was something I watched last night while dining (alone) in our room. The show is called, "Kill it, Cook it, Eat it" and that's pretty much what it was about. The studio audience was assembled to watch (in this episode) baby lambs get slaughtered and cooked. The purpose of the show was to show us what was involved when we eat meat. Not one, not two, but eight baby lambs slaughtered before our eyes. I, fortunately, had chosen a vegetarian pasta for dinner. But being overcome with tears, I had to switch channels after lamb number 3. I tried to watch. But I couldn't.
My favorite part of staying at my friend Jana's house in South Luffingham was listening to the lambs early in the morning and watching them bounce about the field.... And I couldn't help but think of my baby goats back in college days, Angel and Sadie. Well, I'm off to meet Jana for lunch. And I'm certain I won't be ordering lamb.
